This is the ideal trip for someone who would like to give themselves a memorable experience to one of the most beautiful and artistic cities in Italy. Making good use of the precious time you have available in our wonderful country.
Once we have arrived in Florence, our first stop will be "Il Piazzale Michelangelo" or Michelangelo’s Square. Here we can view a stupendous view of the city. Then we will descend down the hill that overlooks Florence and cross the River Arno in order to pay a visit to "Piazza della Signoria". This is the most important square in Florence, where we will visit the "Palazzo Vecchio". This historic building was the centre of political city life in the 13 the century. We will also visit "The Basilica of the Holy Cross" that legend says was found by St. Frances, himself.
The basilica has 16 chapels, many adorned with frescoes done by Giotto and his students. Here the former Franciscan dormitory is now the "Scuola di Cuoio" (leather school) where you can view leather artisans make leather goods sold right next door. On to "Ponte Vecchio" or "old bridge" is Florence’s symbol also known as "Ponte D’Oro" or "gold bridge" for its numerous jewellery shops and then obviously to view "David" by Michelangelo, closed inside the walls of "The Galleria dell’Accademia."
Obviously between one stop and another we will stop to have lunch at a restaurant in the historical centre. Here we will have the opportunity to taste typical local dishes with an excellent glass of Chianti wine.
Even a taste of the local oil and wine will be part of our tour, in fact between Florence’s bruschette and olives we will have the chance to taste various types of wine and oil for the service is completely free of charge.
On the return trip we will come across the Arno again and will get a view of the beautiful, "Palazzo Pitti", erected by the Medici family in 1539 as the official residence of the ruling families of the Grand Duchy and of Tuscany in order to keep their collection of art. We will also stop at one of Florence’s most charming markets for some excellent shopping and then we are headed back to Rome.
