Siena and S.Gimignano
A fantastic day filled with the wonders that only Tuscany can bring. Visiting its characteristic medieval villages, surrounded by the beauties of nature, and tasting some of the best wine Italy has to offer.
We will start by meeting at the hotel and in within 3 hours we will be in San Gimignano. The car ride will be comfortable and stress-free just like a vacation should be.
The village truly lives up to its name as "a medieval pearl". For its exquisiteness is rare and mysterious. San Giminiano is located 56 km south of Florence on a hill. We will visit the towers and walls that encircle the town. The walls themselves are overflowing with legends and stories that make this small village an important piece of Tuscan history.
We are on to San Giminiano’s famous square in order to gaze upon the magnificent panorama of the gently rolling hills and valleys lined with olive trees and the vivid greens of the vineyards. Spacious prairies and broad woodlands embellish the San Giminiano valley. You will have the opportunity to relax and do some shopping or simply take a stroll along the main street of the town.
Lunch in Monteriggione
We will once again take Via Cassia, which runs through the valley, and then stop at Monteriggione. Monteriggione is a historic village, which is encircled by walls that date back to the 13th century.
These walls protected this charming little town in the wars against its enemy, Florence. Here you will be able to taste indigenous dishes and delight in satisfying your palette with an excellent glass of Tuscan wine.
We will arrive in Siena in the early afternoon. Here we will visit the most significant church "Il Duomo". "Il Duomo" or "Dome of the Duomo" which dates back to the 12th century has the shape of a Latin cross and is octagonally based. The famous Gian Lorenzo Bernini added the lantern that tops the dome. Then on to the famous Piazza del Campo, where every year "Il Palio" is held. Il Palio is held in order to celebrate the miraculous apparition of the Virgin near the old houses that belonged to Provengano Salvani. Piazza Del Campo is dominated by the Palazzo Pubblico, which is considered the symbol of civic liberty for the Sienese. It is the highest tower, topped by the celebrated Torre Del Mangia. Because Siena is situated among several winding hills and valleys, most of the sights must be visited on foot. We will walk among the narrow streets of this charismatic little village and you will feel its warmth while it opens up its heart to you in a surreal and almost magical ambiance!
